IT’S TIME. coming October 22.

Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible - Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).

Villeneuve directed “Dune” from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Villeneuve also produced the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. The executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

Behind the scenes, Villeneuve reteamed with two-time Oscar-nominated production designer Patrice Vermette (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” “The Young Victoria”), two-time Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”), two-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (“First Man,” “Blade Runner 2049”), and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (“Blade Runner 2049”). He also collaborated for the first time with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Lion,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”); three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Revenant,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Quills”) and costume designer Robert Morgan; and stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception”). Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Inception,” “Gladiator,” “The Lion King”) is creating the score.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present a Legendary Pictures Production, a Film by Denis Villeneuve, “Dune.” The film is slated to be released in select theaters in 2D and 3D and IMAX and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021 and will be available on HBO Max’s Ad-Free plan in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (English Only) on supported devices for 31 days from theatrical release.

The film has been rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images and suggestive material.

  • Watch this, and you will realize how well made David Lynch's Dune is, in spite of its glaring flaws. I am sorry, but this 2021 movie is badly made. Another characterization would be "clumsily made." The direction is incompetent. Many of the scenes are shot without logical visual development; events are jerky and illogical. The cinematography is also incompetent. The framing is wrong on many scenes, either shot too closely or focusing on the wrong feature. This movie is a gloomy, dark movie, mostly murky grays and browns. It could just as well be in black and white. The script is terrible. The dialogue is laughably stilted. The editing is uneven and incompetent. An important scene is cut, in which the Emperor's planetologist meets the Duke Leto and Paul, inspects their still suits, and finds to his surprise that Paul has donned and adjusted his suit perfectly, though he had never worn one before. This scene was meant to deepen the theme of Paul being the Chosen One. The scene in which the Sardukar stab and are about to finish off Liet, and are killed by the worm, is ridiculously clumsy. And the music. God. Droning depression. Watch it, but be prepared to be disappointed.

  • As expected, the movie is quite bad. Lot's of effects and CGI but confusing story line. You have better chances of understanding what's happening in Dune by reading a Wikipedia page than seeing this movie. It also ends quite bad with the main hero joining the rebels in the desert. I actually found out on internet this movie is supposed to have a 2nd part in the future. Overall I give it 6 out of 10.

  • We need the sequels to come. This film already has everything. There is the fenomenal story, the amazing score by Hans Zimmer, the great special effects and costume designs and the great acting performances. This film is a Sci-Fi masterpiece. And it could become another series of masterpieces. The story yet feels far from finished at where the film ended. People saying they fell asleep clearly did not manage to get into the story well enough somehow, which is something wrong on their side, and definetely not something about the film. Go see the film in the cinema while the amazing opportunity is still there, you won’t regret it.

  • Saw it in the theater yesterday, real cinematic masterpiece BUT it could have done with a bit more storytelling and background info (yes I read the book, the old argument). It‘s a long movie but a lot of the time this movie is more about being visually pleasing than about telling the (amazing) story. If you don’t know the story/book you might just feel it’s a lot of empty pictures without a story for how long the movie is. I know it‘s supposed to be an introduction to the Dune franchise but it might put some people off and that is pretty sad bc there‘s so much good to come

I don't think I have been this enthralled by a film since the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The use of light, sound, clever camera angles and cinematography, fantastic actor performances and more make a movie sensation like no other. Denis Villeneuve must get all the support possible to create Dune Part Two. No excuses now WB.

    • fun fact: Dany's character arc is very similar to Muad'Dibs. - product of generational breeding to create humans with special abilities. -- prescience vs magical abilities - estranged in a desert after family is brutally murdered by rival royal family. -- harkonnens vs baratheons - taken in by indigenous nomadic warrior people with harsh way of life, who are waiting for a messiah-figure. -- fremen waiting for lisan-al-gaib vs dothraki prophecies of the Stallion Who Shall Mount the World - usurps the indigenous religion to take revenge for their families murder, makes themselves a messiah-figure. -- accepting the mahdi mantle vs becoming Mother of Dragons - thought to be the savior of humanity. -- kwisatz haderach vs The Prince(s) That Was Promised, breaker of chains, Mhysa, unburnt, etc. Known plot details coming in unreleased books, known thanks to S8 of game of thrones: - ends up causing death & destruction in a hitherto unseen scale. -- Muad'Dibs Jihad vs Dany's brewing religious war hinted at in the book(done very badly in S8) BONUS: - strong sense of morality but forced to commit acts of cruelty as leaders -- Muad'Dib's "Terrible Purpose" vs Dany's.... Terrible Purpose lmao - tragic sibling they end up having to kill -- Abomination vs .... abusive brother - monster children.... Worm God vs magical firebreathing flying snake lizard triplets They both serve the same thematic purpose; to show that leaders shouldn't be trusted, especially when religion and government are the same. No matter how pure & good their morals are, a leader(especially an absolute leader) can and will commit atrocities. Dune Messiah drives these points home for Muad'Dib, and TWOW + ADOS will do the same for Dany.

Maybe some characters weren't as thorough as I would have liked. But i think it's one of the best blockbusters of recent years: a great cinematigraphic experience. The film contains only the first part of the first book. And it was a good choice: it is the best transposition ever made so far! It deserves to be seen in the cinema!
