  • Culinary Specialist is a hard rate name to say.. too used to Mess Specialists. Little disappointed they did not mention Food Service Attendants since they too play a role in a successful food operation since they help prep and serve food, clean, and one helps the Jack of the Dust (MS who controls the storerooms). In fact I only had 12 Mess Specialists to my 20 FSA's and 1 Mess Deck Master at Arms. Lastly, I don't recall my MS2, who was our ships baker, ever burning any rolls let alone any of his baked goods. We mostly replenished with VERTREPS or in the ports we pulled into. When we pulled into Guam our CO let everyone go on liberty and left dealing with the stores on the pier to the on watch duty section. So we had thousands of dollars of food, (frozen goods and fruits/vegetables) that could spoil left to one duty section to handle... not very smart. Not to mention they put me on the first OOD watch.. So here I am in my dress whites watching our supplies sitting on the pier for too long... I told the messenger to get the Chief of our section to replace me, get all the remaining section on the pier and I started carrying boxes myself.... one set of ruined dress whites later and our food was properly stored. Just say my SUPPO had a conversation with the CO and from then on no one went on liberty until the supplies for our ship were onboard. Note, before pulling into Guam or Australia all ships have to dump remaining fruits and vegetables overboard so as to not bring in any fruit flies or other bugs into their nation.

  • Those sailors on the submarines must eat so good and take care of the food they receive and prepare it like they do on the land and aircraft carriers except for a smaller space to work in. I was in the Air Force and we appreciated the food prepared for us and was glad that we had the best of the best and enjoyed the food provided for us.

  • Ok… I really appreciate you highlighting how things are done and are accomplished by the U.S. Military. Really! But I haven’t even made it a minute into your video, speaking about the U.S. Navy, and your footage has repeated clips of the U.S. Coast Guard! Although, the USCG, is considered the fifth branch of the military, it only falls under the U.S. Navy during a declared war! Otherwise, it has always fallen under the U.S. Customs (Revenue Cutter Service), had it’s longest stint under the U.S. Department of Transportation and now is an intricate part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This is how the USCG is exempt from the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. Coasties do not appreciate being called U.S. Navy, nor lumped into or with the Navy. They serve on Cutters, not Navy Ships! ☺️😉
